THE ART OF FORZA MOTORSPORT 2: CUSTOM CARS

I’ve been playing quite a bit of Forza Motorsport 2 on the Xbox 360 lately, and while the game itself certainly is a load of fun (despite the lack of an in-car cockpit mode – and no, I won’t stop harping on that), the thing that I’ve been the most fascinated by is the incredible custom artwork some players have already come up with. I can’t begin to imagine the patience making some of these designs must require, as I gave up on my first custom paint job attempt after about 30 minutes and only a few shapes.

Perhaps the greatest feature of the game is the fact that the individuals who have spent the time to create these great designs can then put them up for sale via the Forza Motorsport 2 Auction House. Say what you want about the time spent coming up with some of these designs, but I can guarantee that the people who made them are swimming in credits right now and can easily afford to purchase just about any other custom painted car they may see. Doesn’t seem as much of a waste of time now, does it?

As for the rest of us – you know, the ones who couldn’t make a decent design to save our lives, we can spend our time racing for credits so we can also drive around in a car that amazes our friends. Since no article about the custom paint jobs available online would be complete without some examples, I’ve posted some pictures of the best cars I’ve managed to come out of the auction house with.

I guess the ultimate compliment I can give some of the designs I’ve seen is that I can barely believe they were made using the in-game vinyl decal system. To all those custom car painters out there, I salute you – keep up the great work!

  2. The car art is created by layering hundreds of custom stretched and formed geometric shapes on top of each other in order to form the images – which is what really makes the level of detail on some of the designs truly amazing.

The best advice I can give you on creating custom vinyls would be to start simple and be prepared to spend a LOT of time practicing making designs before you’ll have anything you can remotely feel proud of.

If all you want is a Skyline with the Gators logo, I’d suggest combing the AH for the vinyl – preferably unlocked so you could buy it on any car and just apply it to any vehicle you buy. Since Florida is a well known team, I’d have to assume that there are probably some designs already made that would be for sale in-game.

  3. The differences are beginning to emerge after the average desk body and a very harmonious, in our view, a modern silhouette touring: fast, with notes sportivnosti and at the same time vmestitelnogo and cozy…

  5. Well, certainly you’d want to try some of the forums at the official Forza Motorsport 2 website (www.forzamotorsport.net) under the Auction House and Liveries sections.

Another thing to keep a close eye on (via either Xbox.com or the official Forza site) would be the occaisional design contests they’ve ran. Nothing would get your designs out front faster than being featured as a winner of a contest.

As for other places to try, don’t just limit yourself to sites that specifically cater to Forza – other websites may have forums dedicated to the game or custom art. Hell, even social networking sites could help depending on what groups you sign up with.

Finally, my best advice to you is to (unobtrusively) add your gallery address to the cars you create and sell. Keep the vinyls locked so no one can remove them, and those that buy your cars in the AH may well come looking to see what other designs you offer.

    Good luck!

  7. nylatenite commented that the artwork in forza will take a lot of practice to come up with a design that I may feel proud of,I beg to differ. My first design was very well done in my opinion and took about 10 hours of work. Some people say that its hard to believe that the designs made in forza are made with the lines and shapes in the editor,I don’t find it hard really just a little challenging.Think about the editor like this:When you draw on a canvas you connect one line to another to make a drawing and then you might want to shade it in.Same principles apply to the editor, connect one line to another as you would on canvas. If you are a good or decent artist you will find making custom designs in forza A WHOLE LOT EASIER…trust me.
