HALO 3 AI & THE BUNGIE WAAHMBULANCE

In their weekly update, Bungie let some information on the progression of Halo 3‘s AI slip and gave us another peek into the mail bag of the Waahmbulance.

On the subject of the games AI, Frankie advised that while the Xbox 360 is capable of some gorgeous graphics, there’s enough power there to make some hefty improvements to the way npc’s behave too;

“At this point, they’re testing out the new AI and encounters as much as anything else. The graphics range from completely untextured placeholder surfaces, too brilliantly lit and detailed objects. But again, this is a gameplay test, not a graphics one. Lots of folks focus on what technology can do for the appearance of a game – but the 360’s prodigious horsepower can also be applied to AI – the behaviors, movements and reactions of computer-controlled characters. That counts for your human allies, but it’s more noticeable at this early stage in the behavior of your opponents.

Today, I swear I saw some Grunts do a classic pincer-movement to trap me in a narrow canyon. I was battling um, something bigger than a Grunt, and suddenly, I’m being peppered by a second group of jerks, mostly Grunts, who’d been sent in around my flanks to take me out. Grunts are still grunts though, and once I showed some serious opposition, a couple of them panicked and fled, but they nearly had me and it was quite a shock.” -Frankie the Content Monkey, Bungie.com

Once they got the bothersome details of gameplay aside, they dug into a subject everyone has been clamoring for more information on, namely new entries for the Bungie Waahmbulance. For those who don’t remember, the Bungie Waahmbulance is the place where whining, poorly written complaints from folks who have been banned from Live go after they arrive in the Bungie inbox. Let’s take a look at some of this weeks inductees;

The Snitch
“i can name two guys i have played with who cheated i am doing this because we were stand bying and i got banned. the other two didn’t. one was bridging the other guy host who was stand bying. i was just in the party. im not trying to beg for my account back. i know that i was cheating and it was wrong. im just pissed that they didnt get caught when i did. here are their names” – Some cheating jerk

Man, there is just no honor among thieves…or modders anymore, is there?

Potty Mouth
“hey how about u dumbasses stop putting [censored] [censored] games on [censored] halo2. You have some of the [censored] ideas. instead of new games how about gettin off ur lazy asses and making new maps [censored]” -Some kid

I hope that isn’t the same mouth he eats with…

He’s only 3… err 13 years old
“ok i dout there is any thing you can do and if so o well. ok this happend a wile ago but i have not had the time to come here i had an xbox and it brock so i bout a used one because i did not have the monney to i gat home and put my gamertag on the xbox and when on live when i gat on it seid i was band from match making. i was wondering why. then i gat a xbox 360 a few days ago and put my gammer on there thinking it was just that xbox was wierd or something but it told me the same thing. i was just wondering if thiers any thing i can do? my gammertag is [withheld]
thank you

p.s. sorry i cant spell im only 13″ – an example of a school system gone horribly wrong?

Oh…my…God… I literally weep for the future. I may bill Bungie for wear and tear on my spell-checker after that. I think every 13 year old out there needs to go find this kid and smack him upside the head for besmirching the good name of thirteen year olds everywhere.

Once they got the bothersome details of gameplay aside, they dug into a subject everyone has been clamoring for more information on, namely new entries for the Bungie Waahmbulance. For those who don’t remember, the Bungie Waahmbulance is the place where whining, poorly written complaints from folks who have been banned from Live go after they arrive in the Bungie inbox. Let’s take a look at some of this weeks inductees;

Potty Mouth

I hope that isn’t the same mouth he eats with…

Oh…my…God… I literally weep for the future. I may bill Bungie for wear and tear on my spell-checker after that. I think every 13 year old out there needs to go find this kid and smack him upside the head for besmirching the good name of thirteen year olds everywhere.

HALO 3 AI & THE BUNGIE WAAHMBULANCE

In their weekly update, Bungie let some information on the progression of Halo 3‘s AI slip and gave us another peek into the mail bag of the Waahmbulance.

On the subject of the games AI, Frankie advised that while the Xbox 360 is capable of some gorgeous graphics, there’s enough power there to make some hefty improvements to the way npc’s behave too;

“At this point, they’re testing out the new AI and encounters as much as anything else. The graphics range from completely untextured placeholder surfaces, too brilliantly lit and detailed objects. But again, this is a gameplay test, not a graphics one. Lots of folks focus on what technology can do for the appearance of a game – but the 360’s prodigious horsepower can also be applied to AI – the behaviors, movements and reactions of computer-controlled characters. For those who don’t remember, the Bungie Waahmbulance is the place where whining, poorly written complaints from folks who have been banned from Live go after they arrive in the Bungie inbox. Let’s take a look at some of this weeks inductees;

HALO 3 AI & THE BUNGIE WAAHMBULANCE

In their weekly update, Bungie let some information on the progression of Halo 3‘s AI slip and gave us another peek into the mail bag of the Waahmbulance.

On the subject of the games AI, Frankie advised that while the Xbox 360 is capable of some gorgeous graphics, there’s enough power there to make some hefty improvements to the way npc’s behave too;

THE BUNGIE WAAAHMBULANCE IS BACK!

Due to the amazing reviews of the first Waaahmbulance post over at Bungie’s website, Content Monkey Frankie has seen fit to give us more stories from the Land of the Banned from the current week. It’s not as entertaining as episode 1, but there are some gems to be found – like this one;

this is the only email address about xbl, so im gonna email you. I was banned form xbl, and i dont know why, i was doing more stuff on my other account that was against the rules rather than the account that got banned.” -Some Cheating Moron

While you’re reading the current weekly post to get to that wonderful nugget of wisdom, be sure to check out the references to Halo 3’s multiplayer game and the comments regarding the redesign of familiar vehicles for Halo 3. Check out this week’s update thread here for all the fun. In case you missed the original Bungie Waaahmbulance story, you can click here to check it out.

On a related note, do you think the kid I quoted above was dumb enough to give them the name of his other account too? I weep for the future.

HALO 3 MULTIPLAYER IN TESTING & THE BUNGIE WAAHMBULANCE

I’ve been seeing reports all over the place that in a news clip over at Bungie.net, Bungie let loose the information that the multiplayer part of Halo 3 is already undergoing in-house testing. Well, that certainly is exciting news and I’d love to bring you the particulars, but I wasn’t able to find the article everyone was referring to over there. So for more information on that, check out the articles over at Gamespot and Kotaku.

What I did find however, was The Bungie Waaahmbulance, a great post by Bungie’s resident “Content Monkey” Frankie regarding the letters they’ve gotten from people who were banned for cheating. Nothing says funny in my book better than some kid trying to explain how he’s innocent of cheating while not only implicating himself, but sounding like a complete idiot in the process. See wonderful quotes such as;

  • ” If none of these accusation are settle, you may be hearing from a lot of complaints. Some may be said by lawyers.”
  • “the only way they think I could have been banned permanently on my first ban is because I commited a Major Offense. I dont understand, I admit that I have had cheaters on my team, but Ive never cheated more then 8 times that I can remember, Not even close.”
  • “Can you guys at least just make the suspension for (name deleted) for like a month or two. I only want it to be a couple months because this is the third twelve month account that i have bought. It is killing me to keep using money for something that i can’t trust.”
  • “Please! I’ll destroy my mods. i’ll snich on some people that r getting away with mods on matchmaking! Just PLEASE appeal my ban. i want to play matchmaking again. i want to be clean for the arrival of Halo 3! c’mon! i didn’t know what i was getting into when i got mods from my friend”

I swear, some of the responses rank right up there with The Acts of Gord, which if you liked this little bit, you’ll absolutely LOVE. Besides, if you don’t check it out, you could be hearing from a lot of complaints. Some may even be said by lawyers!

Check out the Gamespot article here, the Kotaku article here, The Bungie Waahmbulance here and the Acts of Gord here. *whew, that’s a lot of links!*

What I did find however, was The Bungie Waaahmbulance, a great post by Bungie’s resident “Content Monkey” Frankie regarding the letters they’ve gotten from people who were banned for cheating. Nothing says funny in my book better than some kid trying to explain how he’s innocent of cheating while not only implicating himself, but sounding like a complete idiot in the process. See wonderful quotes such as;
